Gotta get down on Friday

So after the first full week back to work I was really looking forward to Friday.
I was stoked because the CanadaCrew girls and I had purchased a GroupOn to go see Avenue Q (a musical).
So how else would we start it off then food (obviously).

We first tried to go to Golden Turtle for Pho on Ossington.
When we got there however there was a sign saying closed for Christmas (boo).
So we headed down the street to Photien Thanh Vietnamese Restaurant.

We quickly all caught up and giggles and stories ensued.
I told them about my most amazing New Years in Miami.
And it was great to get out of cold rainy weather and eat yummy Pho.

After that we headed to the lower ossington theatre.

We grabbed glasses of wine/beer (depending on preference).
And settled in to watch Avenue Q.
I literally had NO idea what to expect.

Here's the synopsis from the playbill.
"Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who movies into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q.  There, he meets Kate (the girl next door), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the internet sexpert), Lucy the Slut (need we say more?), and other colourful types who help Princeton finally discover his purpose in life!"

And we quickly found ourselves giggling away to this rather inappropriate musical.

We all enjoyed it immensely.

Afterward Laurel and I met up with her fiance and B and C to grab a drink and watch them play pool at Billiards Academy and Sports.
Not really my style but oh well.
As you know I've been selectively avoiding B.  
So of course he messaged me the very next day inviting me out again..."just the two of us".  
Ugh and I only say ugh because I feel extremely guilty about it.
None the less it was great to catch up with the CanadaCrew girls and I can't wait until our next adventure.

Two Thursdays Ago

I should be officially enjoying my holiday in Dallas at this point.
But still owe you some posts :)
Like two Thursdays ago.

The CanadaCrew girls had decided to do a girl's night after work.
So 6 of us met up at the Bier Market on King West.
3 Brits, 2 Canadians and an American round out our fun little group.

I explained to the waitress...I hate beer help.
And she pointed me to this delicious discovery.
Total YUM!

And we all had brilliant pub food.
I had mussels and french fries (which the girls told me is a must do combination...it totally is!)
And we chatted away and shared tons of laughs.

The dessert I was told was delish!
I was just too stuffed to order one myself.

We talked about boys, vacations, who should play Christian Gray in the upcoming 50 shades movies, you know the important things in life haha.
All I know is that I had the BEST time.

Hanging out with a bunch of girls.
4 of them not from here.
It certainly took me back to my expat time in Singapore.
I was in SUCH a great mood after.

I cannot wait until our next after work girls meetup!

Drive in Date

So last night I went on date number two with MrPhD.
He came up with a fun plan to head to the drive in.
I haven't been in years!

We stopped by the store to grab some Mike's Hard Lemonade.
Because what would be a drive in experience without sneaking in some fun beverages.
Plus since we've been having AMAZING weather it the Lemonade seemed like a great option.

It was hot out and we were all giggly about how this seemed very high school.
What better for dinner than... burgers and fries?

So we grabbed a patio seat at South Street Burger Company to eat before we headed to the drive it.

It was a cute drive in out in the middle of nowhere far from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
We decided to see Ted which had us laughing but definitely a very risque movie.

So we settled in to watch it with our Mike's Hard Lemonade.
The second feature was the Avengers but since it was a "school night" we decided to head home around midnight.


I did like that he held my hand.
He also tried to awkwardly snuggle me in the car (but kind of hard to do because of the console between the driver and passenger seat).
We did have some good talks.


And then he leaned over to kiss me.
And he's kind of a sloppy kisser...just saying.
Or maybe I'm just a little bit awkward...or maybe we just need to work on that.
I just found myself pulling away a little bit.
I also am obviously initially the most awkward make out person ever because I get so nervous and worry about what the person is thinking!  


Darn I just don't know about this guy.
I'm totally having a hard time figuring this one out.
I think part of it is that he seems a little more rough around the edges.
He is clearly very smart and well traveled but I'm curious to see how he handles himself in different situations.


By that I mean how does he handle himself in more formal situations.
I find it incredibly attractive to be around a guy who can handle himself in many different situations.
From a hockey game to the work place to a formal evening out.
If a guy is sort of smooth in these situations I find that incredibly sexy.
I'm not sure MrPhD possesses that...but he might.


He did tell me I was pretty last night.
Which I obviously really liked.
And I'm more so just trying to relax and have a good time and not stress about things too much.


We generally do seem to have a decent banter going on right now.
So I guess we'll see where it goes.
I think we are going to hang out again Friday night.
Is it weird that I'm sort of apprehensive about this?


Oh yea and while on my date MrDentalSurgeon called.
Oops I totally forgot that I said I would be home after 9:30 and would have time to chat.
But then the drive in plans came up which had me out later than I thought.
I just listened to his voicemail and he said something about making plans to get together soon.

I just don't know when I'll have the time... between MrResident tonight, MrPhD Friday, MrConsultant Saturday afternoon and a girl's beach picnic on Sunday.
I'm one busy girl!


Do I try to go on two dates on Saturday???
That just makes me think of that episode of SATC when Charlotte goes on two dates and totally gets caught.
Hmmm probably not the best idea.


And if you noticed I quickly filled up my weekend.
I'm obviously trying to avoid Jacob coming up here.
And the best way to do that seems to be to go on lots of dates.
I'll keep you posted!

Tay's Guest Post...of our Toronto Weekend!

Let's all welcome Taylor and her first guest post on my blog...which is really me cutting and pasting from her blog because I'm too lazy when there is already this incredible post about it!  Some photos have been edited because I'm not quite up to the face showing stage of blogging...without further ado here is Tay's post on...

 

Taylor & Teagan Take Toronto

So after WAY too long between visits, 

I arrived to Canada to this GORGEOUS beauty:

We headed straight to her fabulous brand new condo,

where we sat and gabbed and giggled and gossiped for HOURS,

over a couple glasses of red wine,

until FOUR am.

The next morning we slept in,

Teagan made us a delicious HUGE home made apple cinnamon pancake,

with real canadian maple syrup,

and yummy coffee

(She's an amazing bestie!)

And we sat in our PJs and watched old clips of So You Think You Can Dance,

and other You Tube videos,

all day long.

And it was SO fun.

Around 4pm we decided we needed to get our booties up and get ready.

So we created a soundtrack for our weekend,

blared it through her speakers,

and sat and put on makeup and did our hair,

All while sipping Kir Royals.

SO FUN!!

Our first stop of the night was dinner at The Black Hoof.

A fun, unique place that Teagan found for us.

It's a charcuterie, where they serve very.....different....things.

Like horse, and tongue, and sweet breads, and brain, etc.

Gordon Ramsey raved about this place.

So, we gave it a shot.

What better bestie memories than eating brain??  haha

When we arrived there was a wait,

so we walked across the street to their bar.

Which was SO cute!

Totally my kind of bar.

Small and quaint, gorgeous decor, jazz music, and a great atmosphere.

We attempted a self-portrait,

but the front camera came out so grainy,

and the back camera came out so dark.

(and it was way too close of a pic to use the flash!)

As we were almost finished with our drinks,

the restaurant called and our table was ready.

Over two glasses of pinot grigio we picked our dinner selections,

laughing and cringing the whole time

The restaurant was TINY!

Eight tables - all two-tops.

And the kitchen was ITTY BITTY!

I looked over and started laughing because the stove was one you would find in a home.

A white, four electric coil range with attached stove.

Typical apartment fare - and SO funny to see at a place like this!

In this pic, the kitchen starts at the break in the bar and ends at the left-hand side of this pic.

And thats IT for the kitchen.

Nuts.

The menu:

written on a chalkboard on the wall.

We started off with the house cured meats.

Left to right: duck prosciutto, beef salami, beef tongue bologna, beef summer sausage, and I forgot the last one.  But I think it was beef. 

We went left to right in tasting them, skipping the tongue and trying that last.

We toasted out tongue and took a bite.

I struggled with it bc of my head telling me it was tongue.

But after getting over that, I had a couple more bites.

All in all it was good but the tongue was both of our least favorite and not because it was tongue.

It just tasted like bologna.

My favorite was the summer sausage one.

Next dish:

smoked sweetbreads.

These were popular in Argentina, but I was too chicken to try them.

I'm glad I finally got to here,

and they were DEELISH!!

Our third dish was dungeness crab papprdelle.

It was topped with a duck egg yolk.

This was divine!

Our last item was the lamb neck and eggplant, but due to the time it took to bring the dishes one by one (small kitchen?), we ran out of time and had to go, so we cancelled that dish.

But it was fine, because we were full and had eaten enough "weird" foods for the night.

So then it was off to the Thompson Hotel.

One of Teagan's acquaintances (soon to be maybe more...wink wink), has access to the rooftop bar, her favorite spot in Toronto.

We arrived before they arrived,

so we had a couple glasses of bubbly at the lobby bar,

And halfway through, they showed up,

so when we finished, we headed to the top.

We weren't even there very long,

which was unfortunate, because I, too, LOVED the place.

The group wanted to go to a hip, new, happening club called Bloke & 4th.

So off we went.

We arrived to a MAD HOUSE.

And because of who we were with,

walked straight to the door,

and in to our table in the VIP.

We hung out there the rest of the night,

her and I laughing and dancing,

and just having a blast.

It was SO great being out with my bestie again.

The next day we slept in (again).

We finally got up and at 'em in time for lunch.

We headed to a nearby mall where we ate at Jack Astors.

I was SO excited to eat something so cliche-ly Canadian.  hehe

REALLY good!

Especially after a night of drinking.

(esp when you aren't used to liquor anymore and had 2 vodka drinks - blech.)

Then it was off to get our brows professionally done.

We went to Murale (kind of like their version of Sephora but the inside is nicer and less chaotic...kind of like duty free at the airport.)

There, we each got our brows done at the Benefit Brow Bar.

SO fun!

It was the first time I have ever had anything or anyone touch my eyebrows and I just LOVE it!

Being so blonde its almost impossible to even notice a difference,

but I can tell!

We then did a little more shopping.

Roots - to buy some goodies for The Architect

Aritzia - to buy goodies for Teagan and myself

We then headed back to her condo and decided to forgo another night out.

We, instead, ordered takeout Chinese and watched the Golden Globes at the theater in the lobby of her condo.

Perfect night!

The next day was the day I had to leave.

Bummer.

It just went too dang fast.

We headed to Yorkville for lunch,

and found an adorable italian spot.

We started with a bottle of pinot grigio,

then moved on to their in-house marinated olives,

and oven baked asiago.

Both SO GOOD!

For our entrees:

I had the pumpkin ravioli

and Teagan had the fettuccine bolognese

And just like that it was time to go to the airport.

Where I fought back tears trying so hard not to cry.

I hate living so far from such a perfect friend.

I just love her to death.

But on a positive note,

its SO fun visiting her in such a FABULOUS city!!!

I heart Toronto!!!

Teagan,  did I miss anything???

 Not at all Tay...not at all!
