Control

For Friday I was nervous.
I had MrTenderfoot coming up from my hometown.
And we had been flirt texting all week (flexting???)

I rushed home after work and changed real quick.
And then we jumped in a car and headed downtown.
We went to Weslodge for dinner.
I'd been dying to go there ever since I saw there oversize yellow doors!

Anywho when we first sat down the server asked if we were brother and sister (which could NOT be a good sign...clearly my insecurities of looking way too old for him were correct!)
So despite that we had a great dinner and chat.
It definitely had a great vibe.
I loved the (slightly cheesy) decor.

I loved how the servers were styled.
Definitely a fun place to go.
And they wear holsters which suited the place.

Before we knew it it was time to head to the concert.
So we walked down to the Rogers Centre to watch Swedish House Mafia.

And we grabbed drinks and I pretended not to notice all the young things in BARELY any clothing.
Like literally there were girls there in bikinis and Uggs.
Suddenly my leggings/tank/blazer combo didn't seem so cool lol.

And at some point during this song.

He kissed me.
And it was the mix of the pounding bass, and drinks and just good feeling.
That I just went with it.

And the making out continued at my place until the wee hours of the morning.
At least I was the good responsible one and drew the line before things got too out of hand.
And the next day rolled into a very hung over brunch out.
He came with me to pick up my new glasses (which he claimed to find VERY sexy lol).
And before I knew it I had to go meet some of the girls from the CanadaCrew to watch the Ice Carving Contest in Yorkville.

But before he left he pulled me in for a ridiculously good kiss.
This has no possible way of working out.
He is much too young and lives in my hometown.
It's too bad because he is super cute ...maybe I can at least hang out with him a few more times?
Guess we'll see what happens...

a little flame

So of course I'm going the days on of ignoring texts from MrRealtor...I just don't know what to say.
I'm also focusing this weekend on not being annoyed that Jacob said he was coming and then suddenly decided not to and just disappeared off the face of this earth on Wednesday...didn't even have the guts to say he wasn't coming he just disappeared (because he is a scared insecure person who can NEVER face any type of situation he runs...which is exactly what he does over and over again and I'm a total idiot for letting it happen again).  I know exactly how it will go down.  In a few weeks he'll message me and make some flimsy excuse as he tries to blame me.
And I'm dumb for even giving him the opportunity to come here.

Anywho so it makes me long for those magical 24 hours of new years.
And it makes me think of The Classmate.
And I can't help but think of him especially with my FAVOURITE song from Washington Heights
(my new obsession lol).

Which is...
Play Hard by Midi Mafia
You can listen to it here...it isn't available for free download any more :(
Or it's here on youtube...

And oh my goodness...all I can think of is the classmate.
Because he has this habit of posting quotes on facebook.
Like today he posted this quote...

"A pearl is a beautiful thing that is produced by an injured life. It is the tear [that results] from the injury of the oyster. The treasure of our being in this world is also produced by an injured life. If we had not been wounded, if we had not been injured, then we will not produce the pearl."

- Stephan Hoeller

And yesterday it was this quote...

The most successful people make the most mistakes.

And before that this one...

"You can never cross the ocean unless you have courage to lose sight of the shore." Christopher Columbus

Which I think is great.
And I'm trying not to notice him when it comes up in my feed.
But gosh facebook is so bad for that.
So I'm going to pretend that I'm not waiting for the perfect moment to post my favourite quote on my wall from my new favourite song...

But don't forget, that every rainbow needs a little rain
For every lesson learned you gonna need a little pain
For every spark love it's gotta take a little flame
And every miracle needs a little praying

Should I or Shouldn't I...

Unanswered Messages

So this week was a little sprinkle of avoidance and more girly fun
(Taco Tuesday and Book Club on Thursday...that post to come!)
So I told y'all had it went down with MrRealtor here.

It was followed up with an email asking to get together to chat (which went unanswered).
And then yesterday a text message with a link to a music video.
This music video.

Seriously.
Here's what I don't get.
Isn't it easier to treat someone nicely all along?
Instead of apologies and promises to make it up for treating you poorly???

So OVER it.
Also I can't remember the last time someone sent me a link to a music video lol.

Gotta get down on Friday

So after the first full week back to work I was really looking forward to Friday.
I was stoked because the CanadaCrew girls and I had purchased a GroupOn to go see Avenue Q (a musical).
So how else would we start it off then food (obviously).

We first tried to go to Golden Turtle for Pho on Ossington.
When we got there however there was a sign saying closed for Christmas (boo).
So we headed down the street to Photien Thanh Vietnamese Restaurant.
Pic from here
We quickly all caught up and giggles and stories ensued.
I told them about my most amazing New Years in Miami.
And it was great to get out of cold rainy weather and eat yummy Pho.
Pic from here
After that we headed to the lower ossington theatre.
A smaller theatre on Ossington.
Pic from here
We grabbed glasses of wine/beer (depending on preference).
And settled in to watch Avenue Q.
I literally had NO idea what to expect.

Here's the synopsis from the playbill.
"Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who movies into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q.  There, he meets Kate (the girl next door), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the internet sexpert), Lucy the Slut (need we say more?), and other colourful types who help Princeton finally discover his purpose in life!"

Pic from here
And we quickly found ourselves giggling away to this rather inappropriate musical.
Here is a TV friendly preview from a news station.

Here is the list of songs from the playbill...which should give you an idea to the umm adult nature of this.

We all enjoyed it immensely.

Afterward Laurel and I met up with her fiance and B and C to grab a drink and watch them play pool at Billiards Academy and Sports.

Not really my style but oh well.
As you know I've been selectively avoiding B.
So of course he messaged me the very next day inviting me out again..."just the two of us".
Ugh and I only say ugh because I feel extremely guilty about it.
None the less it was great to catch up with the CanadaCrew girls and I can't wait until our next adventure.

Burning Bridges Bulletproof

So in the last 3 days...
3 messages...
From Jacob...
most recent one calling me "zuzu" our cutsie nickname for each other.
Ughhhh...
But I'm not responding.

And this morning I'm listening to this olderish yet rather appropriate song.

And I'll post the lyrics and highlight my fav parts after the jump.
This time, baby,  I'll be bulletproof.

Lyrics:
Bulletproof lyricsSongwriters: Jackson, Elly; Langmaid, Ben;
Been there, done that messed around
I'm having fun, don't put me down
I'll never let you sweep me off my feet
I won't let you in again
The messages I tried to send
My information's just not going in

Burning bridges shore to shore
I break away from something more
I'm not turned on to love until it's cheap

Been there, done that messed around
I'm having fun, don't put me down
I'll never let you sweep me off my feet

This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof
This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof

I won't let you turn around
And tell me now, I'm much too proud
To walk away from something when it's dead

Do, do, do your dirty words
Come out to play when you are hurt?
There's certain things that should be left unsaid

Tick, tick, tick, tick on the watch
And life's too short for me to stop
Oh baby, your time is running out

I won't let you turn around
And tell me now I'm much too proud
All you do is fill me up with doubt
This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof
This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof
This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof
This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof

This time I'll be bulletproof
This time I'll be bulletproof

This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof
This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof
This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof
This time, baby, I'll be bulletproof

Femme Fatale

So I'm so so exited for Britney's new CD.
I love her music so much.
And YES I love that it is totally produced and put together manufactured and super fun.

I wrote about how much I loved her performances here before.
Seeing her on GMA I felt bad how people were ripping her apart.
I thought she did well and improved with each song performance.

Then on Jimmy Kimmel I thought she was funny (it reminded me of skits she did on SNL before).

And I thought it was her best performance yet!

Go Britney I can't wait to get her album this weekend.

In case you missed when she was on SNL the first time...
Here is her opening monologue...

Here are her skits...my fav is the dance audition
Then in 2002...Love how Justin Timberlake showed up in her opening monologue!

And her SNL performances...

Weekend Plans

This weekend will include a weekend trip to...

So on my mission to be less of a hermit I am trying to get out there and be social.
Shelby invited me with her and another girlfriend to go out in Waterloo Saturday night.
Which is our (the Canada girls and Shelby's) old undergraduate city.

I haven't been there in YEARS!  Which will be cool to reminice.  Oh the campus and the fun and studying that was had there.  I spent way WAY to much time in the Library...

Our campus is know as the "Silicon Valley of the North" and is definitely an academic school.  But our campus isn't exactly pretty like pictures I've seen of Auburn or the amazing U of Michigan Campus.

The library is quite the sight at night all "lite up".

Especially when people have been studying way too long.  I remember this occuring every exam season with people rushing and opening/closing curtains in windows...to reflect the general feeling of exam time at school.  UWaterloo really prepared me for graduate school.  Our UNDERGRAD Honours Bachelor of Science was 32 hours a week  (which was not the case of my friends in the south where 18 hours was considered full time).  So that plus Varsity Cheerleading PLUS Kappa stuff and I was a super busy girl.  Hence the generalized panic feeling during exams...(warning: it is explicit!)

So this Saturday will be a chance to get dolled up and go out and have drinks and not worry about being seen.  Not in the sense of carrying on and being belligerent but just to be able to let loose. Not being in my home town where I will ALWAYS run into someone I know.

I know on weekends I've been bumming around in baggy sweats and being all hermit like.
But I think it is time to get out there a little bit more.
So maybe this is the weekend to push that.
Maybe push myself into dressing up and embracing my KimKardashian curves haha.

Also...this is very exciting and one for the bucket list which is...
Attend an awards show!
On Sunday my brother and I are doing a "bro-sis trip" to the Juno's in the TDot!

Not excited?  I am because it is Canada's Music Awards...our equivalent to the Grammys.

Remember when Taylor came to Canada we went to the Bata Shoe Museum and there was this exhibit on shoes?  (you can read that here)...well they were all from these artists who had performed/been awarded Junos.

Its the 40th Anniversary of the Juno's also!
Hosted by Drake (who I love).

He had this to say about hosting...""I am beyond honoured to be hosting this monumental Juno Awards in the greatest city on Earth," said Drake in a press release issued this morning. "I want to bring a youthful energy to the show and encourage people to be excited about what Canadian music has to offer."  Rumor also has it that Drake is trying to bring in some of his big name friends to boost the Canadian award shows, especially being hosted in his home town!  It is set to be the biggest Junos EVER.  The Biebs will be there I'm guessing.

With performances by...

"Hmmm…how to I keep warm during a Canadian winter? Check out who’ll be taking the stage rocking, popping, and crooning during the 2011 Juno Awards Ceremony on Sunday March 27.

Watching the show from the suburbs? Arcade Fire leads the performances pack with 5 nominations and a performance right here in Toronto when they take the stage to show Canada why they’re celebrating 40 years of fan-frigging-tastic Canadian music!

Need a challenge? Who will appear on stage and how will they all fit on stage when Broken Social Scene marches up to show the nation why they secured 4 Juno nominations? The band had anywhere from six to nineteen members!

Pop music your thang? Down With Webster are your boys (and they’ve got two nominations to boot!). Still exploding since they broke out on the scene, they’ve delivered hit after hit so you know you’ll be outta your seat when they rock out on stage!

Feeling cold? Grab a sweater from Hedley who’ll take the stage. And if their past performances have taught us anything, they can do soul, rock, pop and ballads– they’ll own the stage with whatever they’re planning to make us move! Let’s hope they’ll take the stage another time for a win from one of their 4 nominations.

And we haven’t forgotten Canada’s love for country music (we all watch CMT!). We’re hoping the 4 nomination-scooping Johnny Reid can make it two for two as a multiple Juno winner when he takes the stage to perform! Let’s go country!"

Also Sarah McLachlin and Chromeo.

The presenters include:

Billy Talent, Metric’s Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, Randy Bachman, Buck 65, Great Big Sea, Melanie Fiona, Keshia Chante, Classified, Dan Hill, Wes Williams (Maestro), Royal Wood, and eTalk TV host Ben Mulroney are the final Juno Awards presenters added to Sunday night’s two-and-a-half hour broadcast from the Air Canada Centre (CTV, 8 p.m. ET).  They join previously announced presenters Barenaked Ladies, Bryan Adams, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Daniel Lanois, deadmau5, K’naan, K’NAAN, Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley, Robbie Robertson, Rush’s Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee and Shad. and Minister Charles Moore.

Admittingly I only know the ones that are I highlighted PINK!
Anywho I'm really really excited.
And I can cross "Attend an Awards Show" off my bucket list!
Yea!!!!  I'm so excited?!
I have no idea how it works in terms of if we just go to the auditorium or do we try to check out the red carpet or all that stuff!  I'm pretty excited though :)
I'm slowly but surely getting back to myself...thank goodness!!!

Pulling up my socks

Okay so enough of being an Emerald Eyed Girl (see here for the reference).
I found myself feeling kind of bummed since then.
Sliding back and retreating into my hermit like depression...as in I want to spend this weekend in bed with the covers over my head hiding from life.
But sometimes you just have to force yourself out to just continue on...
I feel like a coach would tell me to "dig deep".
Even though right now that is the last thing I want to do.
I'm tired of being strong and pulling up my socks.
Why can't I go on a tyraid?
Why can't I just rage a la Avril in her song What the Hell???

I feel like hopping on a plane and backpacking Europe or South America and just getting really lost.
Seriously...but then I come back to reality.
How NOT pheasable this is...
and how much the girls would kick my ass if I ran away to another country (again).
I just am so OVER my life.  I guess I'm stuck in the 6 week wait of what will happen (awaiting test results from this test taking trip).

Anywho back to digging deep so here are some ways I'm trying to "keep calm and carry on"...
  • I asked my best guy friend probably ever but technically from Graduate school (who happens to live just across the border in MI) to be my date for Eva's Wedding.  He doesn't need a name or colour because we are best buddies with nothing ever between us.  Sort of like Lucas and Haley from One Tree Hill (yea for getting to throw in a OTH reference).

But its true we started sitting beside each other in the first semester and three years (our school was three years year round versus four with summers) later we were still inseperable.  After graduating we talked frequently and made it a point to hang out at least once a year.  He took me to my first US College Football game and he had dinner with my parents and me literally hours before I moved to Asia.  Hmmm maybe my best buddy deserves a whole post about him...or at least a pseudoname...let's go with Will becuase he kind of resembles Will Ferrell (except better looking).  He didn't let me know yet if this is cool (being my wedding plus one) because I know he does have a girlfriend.
  • Tomorrow I'm making the drive to Toronto to hang out with Val, Jane and Jane's husband and stay over night.  Though when tthey first invited me I was like no (because clearly I am wayyyy too busy being bummed!) I just forced myself 5 minutes ago to confirm I would be there much to my own dismay.
  • I'm spinning (see here) more when I feel sad I need to just MOVE again because me and inactivity do not go well together plus I'm seriously heaviest I've ever been but that's for another b*tchblog...I figure readers can only handle so much complaining.
  • I'm debating about just not going to the bridal shower and baby shower in March.  Main reason is (not just my jealousy) but my entire family will be there and I just don't know how to manage.  My cousin Bella will be at the baby shower (it's her brothers first baby with his wife...the ones who had that Christmas party that I ended up not going to).  I really REALLY do not feel like going.  It doesn't seem pleasant at all but then the guilt train pulls up to the station.  They both came to the engagement party and gave us gifts etc.  As did their parents etc.  So do I go or not go?  I have a judgemental  huge family (my mom has 5 brothers and sisters, my dad has 6 sibilings and there are like gazillion first cousins you get the idea).
  • I finally got my mom a birthday gift but that will be a blog post for sure in itself.
So basically I'm trying to do things that will keep me from reverting back to being a Hermit...after all I would much rather be like this...

then like this...

Here I go...

Britney vs Gaga

This was on pinkisthenewblog a while ago.
But I can't stop nearly peeing my pants with laughter everytime I watch this.
It isn't perfectly edited but I think it makes it even better.
I also totally appreciate the content which is funny and with tons of pop culture/gossip rumors etc.
So I thought I would share.
Enjoy.
Warning it is explicit so don't watch it at work or with the kids or anything like that.

I love Britney

So I have always loved Britney Spears.
Since the very beginning (I remember buying her first single) all the way until now.
I get she is produced etc but I love that.
When there was a poster sale for our dorms in undergrad everyone went for like funny ones or scenic ones or cute boys.  I totally had the Britney poster (that was totally intentioned for guys).
I have multiple DVDs and I'm still convinced that besides P!nk (whose talent I recognize is much much stronger) she is the best at putting on a show.
(Then again I haven't been to a concert and am basing it off of her MVA performances and the concert DVDs I own).
So I found a great mix of her VMA moments which are all epic (well except for her Gimme More performance which BROKE my heart).  I was so SO excited to hear she would possibly perform at the Grammy's but alas I don't think it will happen.
